A ROMSEY road is now open after a lorry hit a bridge in the town earlier this morning.

Police were called to the Greatbridge railbridge shortly after 9.15am after reports that a refuse lorry was jammed under the structure that carries the Southampton to Salisbury line.

Train services were halted for a time while Network Rail staff checked the bridge for damage.

The road finally re-opened at around 2pm

A police spokesperson said no one was injured in the incident. It is not known who the lorry belongs to at this time.

FBA says...

Thank the Lord that no one was injured and that the rail line was not damaged, wondering if this was not driver error but perhaps Sat Nav?
