at North Baddesley in memory of one of the village’s best loved characters – historian Una Lonergan (pictured) who died last November after battling cancer.

Parish council chairman, David Knight, is to plant the tree as part of an open day at North Baddesley Village Hall which has undergone major improvements recently.

Mrs Lonergan founded the village history society in 2006 and lived in North Baddesley for about 20 years and was involved in a number of organisations, including the Friendship Circle.

The tree planting ceremony will be held on March 29 a time has yet to be been confirmed yet it is likely to be between 11am and midday, said village hall chairman Barrie Williams.

Visitors to the hall open day will see the redecorate the venue’s new kitchen and new flooring in the toilets.

Among those attending will be the mayor of Test Valley, Janet Whiteley and her husband and fellow councillor, Neville.

The mayor will plant a tree in the grounds to mark the village’s triple win in the 2013 Test Valley in Bloom competition.

The open day runs between 10am and 2pm.

During and the event members of the Taoist Tai Chi group will give a short demonstration of their exercises.
