FOR the third time since Christmas Eve residents in Romsey town centre have seen their homes soaked in sewage.

Part of Winchester Road was closed on Saturday near The Plaza Theatre.

Homeowner Stephen Marriott, who lives in Winchester Road, was forced to pump the foul water out of his downstairs bathroom.

Mr Marriott, 55, who has lived in the road for 35 years, said: “The council were told this was going to happen as we were saying the drainage system was not going to cope with the rain.

“There is foul water coming in. “The problem now is no one can use their toilets because if they do they are making it worse.

“The drains are getting overwhelmed every time it rains.” One woman, who did not want to be named, said her bathroom and kitchen were flooded. She said: “We have phoned the water board, the council and the police, but we are a bit more prepared now.”

A meeting for residents of Winchester Road to discuss the flooding will be held at The Plaza on Sunday, January 12, at 10am.

TRAIN services were cancelled between Romsey and Southampton on Saturday because of flooded tracks in the Redbridge area and again the same section of line was affected on Monday by deep water on the line.

Flooding was also reported on the line near Mottisfont & Dunbridge Station at the weekend and this disrupted train services for a time too between Romsey and Salisbury.

Roads were again badly flooded on Saturday right across the area. This included Gardeners Lane at East Wellow, the A3090 at Mainstone and Winchester Road in Romsey, and Lee Lane between Romsey and Nursling.

Fields on both sides of the A3057 have been turned into lakes on Romsey's northern outskirts at Greatbridge and close to the A3090 at Ower where the River Blackwater and Cadnam River both overflowed.

A FALLEN tree blocked the A27 at Shootash near Romsey on Friday completely closing the road which links Romsey with the A36 at Brickworth Corner at Whiteparish.

Traffic was diverted for several hours via the A36 between Brickworth Corner and the Ower roundabout.

And the A3090 was partially blocked at Winchester Road in Romsey after a manhole collapsed.
