MONDAY’S storm-force winds and torrential rain left a trail of damage across the Romsey area. Roads and railway lines were flooded and blocked by fallen trees.

Almost two inches (50mm) of rain fell in under 24 hours leading to the River Dun bursting its banks at Dunbridge during Monday night.

Lockerley Road was flooded to depth of about two foot west of the Mill Arms. Fields along the Dun Valley were submerged in water and the railway line between Mottisfont & Dunbridge station was also under water.

Train services were suspended on Christmas Eve morning due to the bad weather that had disrupted trains the day before. Winchester Road in Romsey was closed yesterday morning after manhole covered were lifted by storm water and the A36 at West Wellow was also shut because of five fallen trees blocking it.
