JOHN Hanson Community School students and staff were given a second opportunity to meet Team GB bronze medal-winning hockey star Alex Danson.

Alex had visited the school prior to the Games and in this follow-up visit she talked at length to students about her Olympic experience, including the highs and lows of the tournament from an athlete’s perspective.

Alex brought the Games to life and held her audience spellbound with tales of meeting footballer Ryan Giggs, athlete Mo Farah and cyclist Victoria Pendleton in the Olympic Village.

Through her own experiences in sport, she motivated and inspired students of all age groups to work hard to achieve their best, regardless of their chosen field.

During the day, every student had the opportunity to have their photo taken with Alex and her prized bronze medal.

Claire Coomer, co-head of PE at the school, said: “Once again Alex was able to captivate our students and staff.

“We were all excited to see her again and share the success of her bronze medal.

“It seemed like practically the whole school had watched the women’s hockey team’s matches and they were thrilled to see someone who they had met scoring goals and picking up a medal.

“It was a fantastic day.”

Year 9 pupil Will Mudie said: “Alex was an inspiration.

“She has motivated me to try my best and improve my hockey skills so that one day maybe I could play in the Olympics.”

Year 9 pupil Beth Wright said: “Alex really made me believe that I could achieve my goals in life if I am determined and never give up.”
