COMPANIES, schools, communities and individuals all set about making a difference by hosting the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in support of the Macmillan Cancer Support group last Friday.

Thousands of pounds was raised locally as fundraisers across the nation took part in Macmillan Cancer Support’s biggest fundraising event.

In 2011 51,000 people signed up to coffee morning, raising a record £10 million.

Macmillan Cancer Support improves the lives of people affected by cancer, providing practical, medical, emotional and financial support.

Andover Carnival prince, Luis Wyatt, held an event at his hairdressing nana Sara Wyatt’s house and invited her clients.

Special guests included the Mayor of Test Valley Councillor Dorothy Baverstock and Councillor Sandra Hawke.

Test Valley Borough councillor Iris Andersen, who attended the event, said that Luis raised £140 with the help of Poplar Farm, which donated a raffle prize of a meal for four people, and Abbotts Ann Post Office, which provided the eggs.

She said: “Luis felt honoured that the mayor came to his coffee afternoon.”

Meanwhile local MP, Sir George Young dropped into a coffee morning being held at Barclays Bank in Andover’s High Street.

Charles Byrne, head of corporate partnerships and events at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “There are more than two million people in the UK living with cancer and every penny we raise will help us reach out to even more people who need our support.”
