Shortlist drawn up for Pride awards
A COMMITTEE made up of representatives from a host of local businesses, including the Andover Advertiser, put their heads together this week to decide who would be shortlisted for the 2012 Pride of Andover awards.
Nominations for the sixth awards have flooded in, with people across the community being put forward for their invaluable contributions which make Andover so special.
On Tuesday, 9 October, the winners in each category will be presented with a prize in a glittering ceremony hosted by TV personality Esther Rantzen at The Lights.
Committee member Debbie Greene, from writing and PR consultancy Bull by the Horns, said: “There were some great people nominated, which made the task of choosing the overall winners tough.
“We know that there are many people working in the community who go above and beyond what their job description expects, but in the past we’ve not given awards to anyone who’s been nominated for the job they get paid to do.
“This year we had a few exceptional people who fit into this category. One person in particular was nominated by several people, but we felt it was unfair to change the rules at this stage. This may be something we will look at introducing next year.”
Each year the Pride of Andover awards recognises people in the community who make a real difference to other people’s lives.
