Penny is home from hole in the heart surgery
A LITTLE girl whose heart condition was discovered after a visit by a vet to her pre-school has returned home after a successful operation.
Penny Cope was an active three-year-old who enjoyed participating in sports days when a visit by vet Vicky Tilston to Pippins Pre- School, in Appleshaw, found that something was w r o n g while the c h i l d r e n listened to e a c h o t h e r ’ s hearts.
Just one m o n t h later the youngster was having open heart surgery to patch up a 3cm hole and seven smaller perforations.
A narrowing of the artery, which blocked blood flow to her lungs, was also repaired during the operation at Southampton General Hospital. Penny, who has a five-year-old sister, Molly, is now looking forward to returning to her pre-school in a month’s time.
