Tenzone Bowmen Archery Big Weekend

Clubs around the country joined in a celebration of archery over the bank holiday weekend– the Archery Big Weekend - by throwing open their doors and organising taster events that are open to all.

Tenzone Bowmen hosted their Archery Big Weekend event over two days (Sunday 26th & Monday 27th August) at Amport Cricket Club in Andover. Our initial thoughts were that we had bitten off more than we could chew by running a two day event, but our concerns soon disappeared with the arrivals of our first customers who were passing by on bicycles and saw the superb Archery Weekend Banner hand painted by one of our members Amy Randal and decided to give archery a try for the first time.

Over 100 people attending the event over the two days travelled from a variety of different surrounding counties, with one participant travelling over 70 miles from Yeovil in Somerset to pay us a visit. Club members assisted with coaching, keeping archers supplied with tea, coffee, selling homemade cakes and cooking burgers and hotdogs; whilst additional exhilarating support was provided by Tony Blain and the Laporte Archery (Sporting Arrows) trap, generously donated for the event by the Clay Pigeon Company in Nottinghamshire.

We were surprised to see Tony from the Clay Pigeon Company to be assisted by Arun Kumar, a national archery judge, Asian medalist, National medalist & national champion from India who was visiting the UK to judge at the Olympics and Paralympics. Arun also joined in with the event when welcomed to shoot with us on the 70 meter target, donated by Tenzone Targets, set up to demonstrate the Olympic distance.

We were kept busy full time over the two day event and received great interest in our forthcoming beginner’s courses. Tenzone Bowmen would like to thank everyone for attending, Amport Cricket Club for the use of their immaculate grounds, The Clay Pigeon Company and all club members who helped to make this a great unforgettable weekend.
