EARLY action following Wiltshire Council’s first quarterly budget projection has reduced the potential budget pressure of £15m to just over £3m. Monitoring of the first quarter of this year’s budget showed that by March 2011 the budget could face additional pressure of £15.8m.
This projected figure was based on a number of areas including £10m on service demands, including adult social care, and the recently announced Government grant cuts of £2.7m. Council leader Jane Scott said: “In the current climate it is important to act quickly and find savings through working more efficiently and looking at how we purchase and procure our services.
“This has helped us to reduce the projected budget pressure to £3.5m. This means we have the rest of the year to find additional savings and I’m confident we will balance our budget by the end of it.”
