TEENAGERS across the Andover area were celebrating today as the agonising wait for their GCSE results was finally over.

Schools in Andover, Stockbridge, Whitchurch and Burghclere were all celebrating the students' results with many youngsters jumping up and down with joy at their achievements.

Students and teachers at Harrow Way Community School are celebrating their best ever performance in the school’s history with 63 per cent achieving five A*-C grades.

This is a 21 per cent increase on last year’s results and 50 per cent of students achieved five A* to C grades including English and Maths.

Headteacher Charlie Currie said: “The results say so much more about our school than a record breaking performance – they are a testament to committed students and the high quality teaching that has become our hall mark.

“Our school has consistently improved in recent years and our students’ outstanding academic performance is the very best way to showcase this.”

Winton School is also celebrating its best ever performance with an 18 per cent increase on last year’s five A* to C grades.

As well as scoring an impressive 58 per cent the school also recorded a 30 per cent pass rate in the five A* to C grades including English and Maths.

“These results are the best the school’s ever had but we all still feel there’s more to come,” said headteacher Chris McShane.

“With an increase of 18 per cent on last year’s overall scores it really indicates just how much the school has improved and still is improving.”

At John Hanson Community School there were tears of joy as the pupils opened their envelopes with a massive 65 per cent achieving five A* to C grades.

An impressive 57 per cent of students scored five A* to C grades including English and Maths and headteacher Richard Butler is delighted.

“I can honestly say that all of our school community is both proud and delighted,” he said.

“As recently appointed headteacher I am inspired and motivated by these outcomes. I feel certain our school has the potential for all students to reach even greater heights in coming years.”

Rookwood School was also a site of celebration as 93.3 per cent of the 30 year 11 students went away with five A* to C grades and 87 per cent included Maths and English.

Headmistress Margaret Langley said: “I am absolutely delighted with these wonderful results.

“All the pupils and staff have worked extremely hard in preparation and I am very pleased that their efforts have been rewarded so well.”

Over in Stockbridge Test Valley Secondary School achieved 72 per cent of five A* to C grades with 63 per cent including English and Maths.

Staff were especially pleased with maths as the school specialises in that subject with 80 per cent of the students scoring an A* to a C grade.

Trish Briggs, deputy headteacher, said: We’re extremely pleased with this year’s results and the whole year group achieved very high standards.

“It’s a real testament to all their hard work.”

At Testbourne School in Whitchurch students were overjoyed with their results as 80 per cent of them achieved five A* to C grades while 66 per cent of them scored the same grades including Maths and English.

“We always knew this was a good year group but they have done even better than we expected,” said Hilary Jackson, headteacher.

“We’re all really delighted everyone’s hard work has paid off and produced such an excellent set of results.”

The Clere School was also celebrating with 73 per cent of students getting five A* to C grades.

Headteacher Sarah Rogers is thrilled with the results which is a seven per cent increase on last year and wishes to applaud the effort of commitment of all students and staff.
