POLICE have been asked to step up patrols around Ludgershall recreation ground after reports of youngsters drinking in the area over the summer holiday.

A used syringe was also found among many broken bottles.

Police Sgt Martin Phipps told the town council if the problem continued police could use test purchases to see if alcohol was being sold illegally by shops to people under-age.

Meanwhile the Disability Discrimination Act has forced the town council to abandon its comfortable council chambers and meet in a soon-to-be-demolished church hall after a disabled resident, Mrs Donna Pearce, complained about lack of access.

The move could cost Ludgershall council taxpayers a significant sum because the council will now have to hire a room for meetings. "Our new building will be disabled friendly but we have to take action to allow those who wish to, to attend - we can't discriminate," said council chairman Chris Williams.

Yeah young people do drink up the recreational ground and yes it is a problem, but i know for a fact its not the young people responsible for the used syringe. there have been smack-heads in the village for years before the youngsters were born but the council/police are always throwing the blaim at the younger generation and its wrong, you say you dont want to discriminate against disabled people so why does it make it ok to do it to children?? people need to start waking up and realise its not always the younsters

The old primary school should be purchased by the council and used for all public offices.

It is extremely sad that the councillors have to "abandon" its comfortable chambers,
(I say that tounge-in-cheek)

Afterall they have "abandoned" the Pavilion and allowed it to become irrepairable!
Why? they blame the kid's AGAIN,
Of course if they wont give the teens Goal posts...bordedom sets in!
Once as an enthusiastic local parish Council (in the mid-ninetys) I tirelessley campaigned for better play equipment and Goal Posts for the teens, and I even suggested that the Pavilion be opened up at weekends/summer holidays, as a refreshment Tuck shop, (I also volunteered to do it) and also where mums could spend a penny and stay in the Recreation ground longer...(and this was in the Andover paper) but I was was told it wouldn't work, No more discussions were held, and my enthusiam was surpressed!

What a pity, the Pavilion could have been self funding, and this would have been good for the community...and still used by local Community groups

The article also says about disabled discrimination with regards to their renting the Church rooms ONCE A MONTH! and that now it will cost Ludgershall taxpayers a "significant sum"...what a load of Rubbish!

They already own the Pavilion, (which IS ALREADY disabled Friendly)and repairing it will be a lot cheaper than Dreaming up the finances for an "Over the Top" New Town Hall in the Recreation ground...
the Whole Country is in a tight financial crisis...I say "Make do and Mend" and while I am on the subject of economy,
The whole point isn't Disabled Discrimination, it's Total Discrimination against their own tax payers,
"Height Discrimination"
How much passing trade is "Passing" Ludgershall by, because of the height restriction barrier, now passing (or working local) builders cannot stop to buy Chips, Mini buses cannot stop en-route with people on mystery tours, and not to mention not a good idea for persons who have high vehicles who want to either buy a Bicycle from our newest local business, or buy something from the "Stove" supplier.....Ludgers

hall Town Council are damaging local tourism and business themselves, and continue to knock Ludgershall's Future....Our Youth!
(Lock the barrier at night if they fear car park abuse)
A very humbling thought of the Town Councillors in the Lowly Church Rooms!
It wont hurt them at all.

Donna Pearce (Mrs)
