THE new Southern Co-operative store set to open in East Anton Farm Road on 2 February and a charitable project could receive a £1,000 grant to mark the opening.

The group has Making a Difference scheme that looks to help out the communities in which its stores are based.

Residents have until 19 January to nominate a cause closest to their hearts and their homes that will really benefit the community.

The 'Love Your Neighbourhood' scheme is open to any local cause and it not limited to registered charities.

The charity or community group selected will be invited to participate in the store opening on Friday, 2 February at 10am.

The community engagement programme promotes four key social themes: ‘Greener Neighbourhoods’, ‘Healthier Neighbourhoods’, ‘Safer Neighbourhoods’, and ‘More Inclusive Neighbourhoods’.

Charities and community groups can also apply for cash donations or goods in kind the scheme, which is funded by the 5p single-use carrier bag levy.
