DOZENS of Test Valley residents gathered last week for the launch of a new community scheme for older people in the Andover area.
Test Valley Live at Home (LAH) held a launch party at Harris Hall, Church Close, on Saturday, 7 October.
The service is part of MHA, the national charity providing accommodation, care and support to over 17,000 older people
Sarah Palmer, manager of Test Valley LAH, said: “We’re always hearing about how loneliness is a terrible problem for so many older people in the UK.
"Having company, conversation and practical support is really invaluable for people’s health.
“The Scheme also aims to promote older people’s independence and enable them to stay living in their own homes for as long as possible.”
MHA's services tackle isolation and loneliness amongst older people, keeping them socially active and engaged.
Test Valley LAH already has 16 members, with more enquiries coming in since the launch.
Coffee mornings and a trip to the Milestones Museum of Living History have already been planned, as well as activities including Singing for Wellbeing.
Sarah added: “We offer practical and social support to older people who live independently.
“It’s all about keeping older people engaged and active, and fighting off loneliness.”
