A PUB in Upton has opened a new farm shop selling locally-made produce within its premises.

Landlords of The Crown Inn, Amanda J’Bair and Lewis Spreadbury, opened the shop on Saturday, August 5.

The shop will sell local goods, including Chalkstream smoked fish, Upton’s Parsonage Farm charcuterie, Oaktrack Smallholding produce, Meon Valley Cider, Upham Ales, Jenkyn Place wine, and Chalkdown Cider.

Amanda said: “The feedback from our customers about the local ingredients on our pub menu has been really positive. We hope to inspire them to use similar produce in their own cooking so having a shop on site where they can buy it to take home is ideal. It’s also about community for us, a place for people to come together. We have comfy seating and fresh coffee so come in for a chat and a browse.”

Councillor Carl Borg-Neal, mayor of Test Valley, opened the farm shop He said: “Small businesses and the diversity they are able to deliver are key to the economy of Test Valley but also benefit its residences. The addition of the farm shop is a great example of this and I was pleased to see how much of what was on offer was sourced within the Test Valley and surrounding area. I wish them every success.”

Kit Malthouse, MP for North West Hampshire attended the opening, and said: “This venture is a great development. In taking over The Crown Inn, Amanda and Lewis have breathed new life back into a hub of the community and this new shop can only give both the pub and local producers a boost.”
