A POPULAR roller-disco club, which attracts over 100 children and their parents each weekend, held an emotional last session on Saturday.

The group, known as Andover Rollers, is now without a home following the closure of Andover Leisure Centre's sports hall last weekend.

The club was first introduced to the town four years ago and is run by Midlands based company SK8house limited.

Owner, Heath Stone, said: “It’s a real shame.

“People really enjoy coming here each week and it’s keeping kids off the streets.

“We run events across the country but Andover is a popular one.

“As a business we’ll take the hit and move on because there is nothing we can do, but it’s the loss to the community that’s a real shame.”

Mr Stone, 46, has been critical of new leisure providers Places for People, who took over Andover Leisure Centre from Valley Leisure earlier this year.

The father-of-five claims there has been a “lack of communication” towards him from senior managers.

He claims the company has done little to help him find alternative accommodation and has not guaranteed his block Saturday booking returns once the new hall is complete.

He said: “Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen what they can do and once the new facility is complete it will be amazing and all of this will soon be forgotten.

“But as a regular block booking I would have thought they would have at least got in contact to talk about my booking once the new hall was complete.

“I’m not expecting a pat on the back, just some contact would be nice.”

Despite the setback, Mr Stone says he still hopes to find a new interim home for the roller-disco while the new Andover Leisure Centre is being built.

He says he is currently in talks with Tidworth Leisure Centre about securing a regular weekly slot.

Mr Stone added: “They have been really enthusiastic about it.

“Hopefully we can work something out. If anyone has an old warehouse or a large space we can use, then please call 07814 600111.”
