A 42-year-old Andover man has been arrested after drugs worth more than £16,000 were seized when police searched a car on Sunday.

Officers stopped a man driving a car on Boscombe Road, Amesbury at about 5.30pm on Sunday, and searched his vehicle, uncovering £2,000 in cash and a small amount of cannabis.

PC Hannah Milburn recalled seeing the same vehicle leaving an area near to an Amesbury hotel over the past few nights, and enquiries at the hotel led to the search of a room in which officers seized a large amount of what is suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of £15,000 and herbal cannabis with a street value of over £1,000.

Investigating officer DC Mark Welch from Salisbury CID said: “This is an excellent example of proactive policing and one officer using her ‘police officer's nose’ to link the man back to the hotel room, which has resulted in large amount of drugs being removed from our streets.”

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs, as well as money laundering. He was subsequently released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Anyone with information about drug use or supply in their area is asked to report it to police on 101.
