A LORRY driver who died after suffering serious injuries during a crash on the A303 has now been named by police.

David Weeks, 57, of Maple Close, Shaftesbury, was the driver of one of the lorries involved in the collision on the A303 westbound by the turning for Overton and Micheldever station, at around 11.55am on Monday.

Mr Weeks was rushed to hospital by road ambulance with a police escort, following the collision but later died in Basingstoke hospital.

The road was closed for a large part of the afternoon as an air ambulance was called to the scene as well as paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS).

A spokesman for SCAS said: “We were called to that at 11.46am, after a report that a heavy goods vehicle had collided into the back of a rubbish truck, with the HGV driver trapped in his cab.

“We sent an ambulance, one of our officers and the hazardous area response team, and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance."

Police are keen to speak to a tractor driver who was driving on the road before the crash and is believe to be an important witness.

Police are appealing for any witnesses who saw the accident, in particular they would like to hear from the driver of a tractor they believe was driving on the carriageway shortly before the crash. Officers believe he may be an important witness.
