Police are appealing the public to be vigilant about protecting local wildlife after a suspicious incident was reported in Andover last weekend.

On Saturday 14 May at around 2pm, a man was seen trying to lure and catch ducks at Anton Lakes.

He was challenged by a member of the public.

The man is described as being around 6ft tall, with dark skin and spoke with a foreign accent.

In February this year, a butchered swan was found at the same location which had been killed and used for food.

PC Steve Rogerson, of Hampshire Constabulary’s Country Watch team, said: “It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to kill, injure or take any wild bird.

“This is a busy location and so we are asking the public to be vigilant in protecting our local wildlife.”

If you have seen anything suspicious involving local wildlife, call 101 with crime reference number 44160187561.
