TWO town centre toilets have been closed again following ongoing issues with drug abuse.

Test Valley Borough Council have confirmed that they have sealed off the facilities in George Yard and Borden Gates in the interest of 'public safety'.

They have confirmed that this is due to 'ongoing problems with drug abuse'.

The toilets were previously shut off in October last year with a notice stating that they were closed for 'deep cleaning'.

However the council later confirmed that discarded drug paraphernalia had been discovered in the toilets and this had prompted the need for the clean.

Talking about the most recent closure, portfolio holder for estates and economic development, councillor Peter Giddings, said: “Due to ongoing problems with drug abuse in the George Yard and Borden Gates toilets, the Council has reluctantly had to take the decision to close the facilities in the interests of public safety while we explore options for a longer term solution.

"We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused."

Mr Giddings confirmed that the public toilets at Andover Bus Station are unaffected by the closures.

The council say the toilets will remain closed indefinitely.
