ANDOVER fire crews are among a group of 60 firefighters attempting to tackle a large thatch blaze near Basingstoke.

Firefighters from across North Hampshire are tackling the blaze at the property in Farleigh Lane, Nutley, where flames engulfed the thatched roof of the home.

Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to the incident at 9.02am, and are still at the scene.

Police have closed off a section of the road while 10 pumps from Basingstoke, Tadley, Andover, Winchester, Alton, Fleet and Redbridge deal with the blaze.

Salvage work is currently being undertaken, after 75 per cent of the roof was severely damaged by the fire.

Crews used two jets, two hosereels, two CAFS jets and two breathing apparatus to help tackle the flames.

A spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said an investigation into the cause of the fire will be launched once crews are clear of the site.

Relief teams have now taken over as the salvage operation is on going.
