A WATERLOO Court jeweller has valiantly defended his shop for the second time after it was targeted by armed robbers this morning.

The attempted robbery took place at David Mellor & Sons jewellers at around 11am when a moped carrying two men pulled up outside the shop.

Mr Mellor's daughter Amy told the Advertiser that the two men got off the bike and tried to smash their way into the shop, both carrying a mallet and a knife and targeting the luxury watch window.

As previously reported by the Advertiser, Mr Mellor tackled two armed robbers who raided the shop in September 2014, and when he saw the moped pull up this morning he blocked the door so they could not gain entry.

Instead, they attempted to smash the glass to the window but failed to gain access to the watches.

Miss Mellor said: "Dad tried to open the door on them but they just kept going and going.  We had a fog bandit which filled the shop with smoke and it has all been caught on CCTV."

When the would-be thieves failed to gain entry one got back on the moped and started making his getaway, leaving the second to chase after the bike.

Miss Mellor chased him down the street but they sped off, heading into oncoming traffic.

It is understood that nothing was taken and nobody was hurt during the incident.

Police remain on scene carrying out forensic investigations.
