AN Andover man has appeared in Basingstoke Magistrates' Court on drugs charges following a town centre arrest last week.

Jack Phillips, 25, was arrested after he was found to have on him a significant amount of Mephedrone, also known as M-cat and meow meow, and cash.

He was later charged with being concerned in the supply of drugs and made an appearance before magistrates.

Describing the increasing popularity of the class B drug in the town, Sergeant Steve Parker of Test Valley Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Mephedrone is very popular with the young set at the moment, it has has over taken cannabis."

"If anyone has any information about the supply of the drug, keep us informed."

Phillips has been remanded in custody to appear at Winchester Crown Court in July.
