PASSENGERS' lives on flights into Southampton were put at risk when laser pens were pointed at two planes on approach to the airport.

Hampshire police is investigating two separate incidents involving aircraft on their approach to Southampton airport in the skies over Netley and Basingstoke.

Both planes were targeted by a green laser but the incidents are not being linked and no-one was hurt by looking directly at the beam.

The incidents took place at about 9.30pm on Tuesday April 7 in the Basingstoke area and at about 8.25pm on Wednesday April 15 in the Netley area.

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: “Pointing laser devices directly at anyone or anything is dangerous and could cause temporary blindness or irreversible eye damage.

“This is particularly serious when directed at any type of vehicle, especially aircraft.”
