AN Andover window cleaner is hoping to find love on the Isle of Fernandos when he appears on television on Saturday night.

Ross Bates, 22, from River Way, will join matchmaker Paddy McGuinness on ITV dating show Take Me Out in an attempt to secure a date with one of 30 single girls.

Ross, who runs his own window cleaning company, Arbees Window Cleaning, will descend down the legendary love lift and hope to impress the girls enough to keep their lights on.

He said: “My mates saw something online and I just filled out the application form.

“That was late on a Wednesday and I got a call the next day and they said ‘do you want to come in for an interview’?

“During the interview they said I was going to have to act out coming down in the lift.

“I didn’t expect that, but went ahead and did it.”

Visiting the Advertiser’s office this week ahead of his appearance in front of three million viewers, Ross said he tried his best not to let his nerves show during recording.

He said: “Doing the show I was a lot more confident than I thought I was going to be.

“I was really a p p r e h e n s i v e walking towards the studio and was growing more and more nervous as I heard the sound of the audience.

“Then there was a technical fault just before I got in the lift, and I used that 10 minutes to compose myself.

“I loved it, the whole experience was amazing.

All the people who have done it have said the same thing.”

To see how Ross gets on, tune into ITV1 at 8.05pm on Saturday.
