A GROUP which hosted a touching tribute to servicemen who lost their lives in World War One has been rewarded with hundreds of pounds in funding.

Members of the Longparish Village Choir were on hand to pick up a cheque worth £500 from Test Valley Borough Councillor, Jim Neal, as part of his councillor community grant.

It comes after the choir put on a successful concert of remembrance in November.

The poignant event was performed to a slide show of World War One images and included readings about some of the people in Longparish who died during the conflict.

Cathy Yelf, director of the Longparish Village Choir, said: “We are thankful to Councillor Neal and Test Valley Borough Council for their help to fund this important event.

“The research was conducted by local people and its legacy forms the basis of an exhibition, which is available on the village website thereafter as valuable historical data for researchers and historians of the future.”

Cllr Neal said: “I am delighted to have helped the Longparish Village Choir mark such a significant anniversary.
