ANDOVER Choral Society will have everybody dreaming of a white Christmas with its annual Christmas concert.

Its programme of ‘Beautiful Christmas Music’ will be performed at St Mary’s Church, Andover, on Saturday, 6 December, at 7.30pm.

In a concert that will appeal to all ages, the choir will perform a mixture of traditional choral repertoire and newer works by living composers.

Peter Ford, now in his sixth year with the society, will conduct, with soprano solos provided by talented young singer Sarah Barnett and piano accompaniment by Julie Aherne.

The concert includes Poulenc’s Gloria, a work of remarkable humour and fun, apparently inspired by “some solemn-looking Benedictine monks that (he) saw playing football one day”, Eric Whitacre’s hauntingly beautiful Seal Lullaby and Bob Chilcott’s On Christmas Night.

It is set to be a delightful fusion of well-known carols and original material in an impressive array of styles.

Tickets cost £10 in advance (free for ages 14 and under) from The Lights box office and thelights.org.uk, Cartridge & Personalised Print World in Bridge Street and choir members, or £12 on the door.
