AN ANDOVER councillor has backed parents campaigning for a controlled crossing to be installed outside a school.
As reported in last week’s Advertiser, dozens of people have signed a petition in a bid to install traffic calming measures outside Roman Way School “before someone is injured or killed”.
Traffic flow in the area has increased following the construction of new houses on the northern side of Augusta Park.
Now Alamein Ward councillor Phil North has spoken out in support of their campaign.
He said: “I understand the concerns raised by parents. A controlled crossing for this site has been planned ever since the planning permission was agreed for Augusta Park, and I am determined to see it delivered.
“The contract between the council and the developer states that the builders will provide the money for a crossing at 1,050 home occupations in Augusta Park.
“Occupations at the end of September were 958. On current timescales the money should be transferred to the county council in March or April next year. I will be pushing the council to have the scheme ready to go.”
