AN ANDOVER opticians has hosted a bake sale in support of a sight charity.

Staff at the town’s Specsavers branch threw on their oven gloves in order to raise money for Guide Dogs.

It came as part of the charity’s official Guide Dogs Week, which took place earlier this month.

The charity, which has helped over 29,000 people since it formed in 1931, holds the annual week to help fund its important work with blind and partially- sighted people across the country.

And staff at the Andover store did their bit by encouraging customers to make small donations in store, while also selling their cakes and lapel pins.

The day raised £110 for the charity to go towards the Specsavers’ nationwide target of £250,000, which the company hope will fund the training of 25 puppies.

Grahame Smith, store director at Specsavers Andover, said: “Guide Dogs does a lot of fantastic work in the community and we are delighted that we had the chance to raise money and awareness on their behalf.

“I would like to thank the local people of Andover for their generosity and for joining us for a day of fun.”
