ANDOVER poets Bobbie Coelho and Sharon Vennall have won first and second prizes in the Andover section of this year’s Big Up Words poetry competition.

Bobbie Coelho, from Andover, who has been writing poetry for many years and has produced two anthologies of poetry, won first place with her poem Untitled.

Floral Way resident Sharon Vennall, who works at The Lights and is also lead vocalist in jazz group JazzInc, took second place with her poem The Table.

The overall winner was Graeme Sandford with his poem A recipe for Sauteed Shakespeare, and the overall runner-up was Jane Goldsack with her poem Girlfriends on Holiday Eat Supper With the Polizia.

The Big Up Words competition encourages people in the Andover area to have fun with words, holding writer’s workshops and poetry cafes as well as other writing events.

Their next fundraiser will be held at Andover and District Mencap on Saturday, 22 November with guest Jenny McRobert making an appearance.
