HAMPSHIRE will receive £1 billion worth of investment this year as part of the county council’s capital expenditure programme.

As part of the programme, Hampshire County Council have set aside £96 million this year for roads, waste disposal and various other projects to help stimulate its growing economy.

£56 million of that will be spent on much needed Highway maintenance, which comes after the county suffered its highest levels of rain fall in 250 years.

The other £916 million will be invested through the South’s two Local Enterprise Groups, who will spend the money in other similar projects across the region.

Councillor Sean Woodward, Executive Member for Economy Transport and Environment, pictured, said: “We have set ourselves a very ambitious target this year to ensure we deliver a programme that residents will see the benefit from, now and in the future.

“This includes repairing the roads from last year’s extreme weather, as well as infrastructure programmes that will see pinch points freed up, and s a f e t y improved.

“All of this plays a major role in keeping Hampshire moving and improving Hampshire’s economic prospects - making the county more attractive for organisations to base themselves.”
