DONKEYS and dogs were the stars of the show at the Ducis and Everleigh show last Saturday.

A fun-filled afternoon was had at Collingbourne Ducis village hall and recreation ground with a dog show, parade of vintage cars, bouncy castle and popular stalls including a cakes, bottles and books.

Donkeys from Weston-super-Mare returned to Wiltshire for the fourth time for the well-loved donkey derby with bets being taken on Tim’s Totally Terrific Tote.

Donkey derby director, Lindie Rogers, said: “It was the most dazzling display of determination by donkeys and jockeys alike.”

In the dog show, the dog with the waggiest tail was won by Riley, a three-month-old Jack Russell and the dog that the judge would most like to take home was Dotty a 20- week-old Boston Terrier.

Best junior dog handler was won by Phoebe Harris from Tidworth with cross-terrier Bobby.

Dog show organiser, Irene Groves of Dandies dog parlour in Collingbourne, said: “It was very enjoyable, the kids enjoyed it and everyone was so proud of their rosettes.”

Music was provided by the Test Valley Band and two pipers from the Royal Artillery.

A main attraction was the cash draw where £250 was won by Mary McLean, £100 by Roger Marsh, £50 by Ian Caskie and £10 by Cindy Ballsden.

Showteam leader, Richard Carter, said: “We had a marvellous afternoon. Everybody got together to make a big community event and it was well supported.

“The donkey derby was, as always, a success.

“There was something for everybody.”
