OFFICERS from Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit are appealing for information following serious road traffic incident.

The incident occurred around 9.47am today (Tuesday 16 September) on the on-slip to junction six of the M3 at Basingstoke.

A flat bed van and trailer and VW Golf had pulled on to the hard shoulder. The drivers both got out of their vehicles and exchanged words.

The car driver went back to his vehicle and as he tried to get into it, the van pulled out from behind him and passed him.

The vehicle clipped his legs, leaving him with serious injuries. The van driver did not stop and carried on along the M3.

The man was taken to the North Hampshire Hospital by ambulance.

The van driver is described as: White, 40-50 years old, 5ft 6, thick neck, cropped brown hair, balding at the front.  He was wearing a grey top, the white flat bed had a high cab, and a grey flat bed trailer.

PC Clyde Jerrard, who is investigating, said: “This incident has left a man, in his 60s, with some serious leg injuries. It’s possible that the van driver was not aware that the man was injured.-and we’d like to trace him urgently. We’d appeal to anyone with information to contact us.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC Jerrard at Whitchurch by calling 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be left anonymously.
