DURING August, Test Valley Borough Council’s clean team will be out and about in Andover and Romsey town centres removing chewing gum from the streets.

The clean-up forms part of the council’s Love Where You Live campaign and involves the use of steam and a non-hazardous chemical which breaks down the gum in seconds, leaving no trace.

Councillor Graham Stallard, environmental portfolio holder, said: “Also working alongside the clean team will be the council’s enforcement team, who will be talking to residents and handing out gum wraps and pocket ashtrays.

“Both teams have been welcomed by visitors and residents and I am pleased that we are able to help make a difference to both town centres in this way.”

The process is environmentally-friendly and the removal kits are portable, quiet, non-hazardous and will not disturb residents, shoppers or businesses.
