RURAL crime cost the local community £1m in Hampshire last year according to a survey.
A UK-wide survey by NFU Mutual shows an 8 per cent rise from £930,000 in 2012.
The most common items targeted by thieves in Hampshire over the past 12 months were tools, garden equipment and trailers.
Although high-value thefts may be highly organised, the number of stolen garden tools indicates opportunist thieves continue to target gardens.
