A MAN was caught drinkdriving when he drove on the wrong side of the road.

Maciej Buczek, of Finkley, was pulled over by the police after he began driving on the wrong side of the road along Eastern Avenue, Andover.

He pleaded guilty to drinkdriving when he appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

The 37-year-old was pulled over by police on 21 June in Suffolk Road, Andover.

Serena Edwards, prosecuting, told the court that Buczek – who has no previous convictions – was found to have 44mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit for driving is 35mg.

Natalie Cheeseman, defending, said that the full-time dad had gone into Andover town centre and drank two to three whisky and cokes.

She said: “He hadn’t intended on drinking. He was there predominantly to take his friend home. He bitterly regrets it and he is extremely remorseful.”

Magistrates fined Buczek £110, reduced from £165 for his early guilty plea, and disqualified him from driving for 12 months. He was given the chance to reduce his disqualification by 13 weeks by completing the drink-driving rehabilitation course, and was also told to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £85.
