LUDGERSHALL Town Council has voted to give the freedom of the town to a locally-based Army regiment.
On Tuesday evening, councillors spoke in glowing terms about the good relationship established between the town and 26 Engineer Regiment.
The proposal is in its early stages but the first parade through the town is expected to be undertaken in 2015.
Councillor Brian Cordery said: βIt is well deserved. The fact is they are always there to help us in Ludgershall and even when units are in Afghanistan they send people to help us out.β
Town clerk Janet White advised that the process of granting the freedom could take as long as a year to complete. Councillors voted unanimously to support the move.
The 26 Engineer Regiment is an armoured engineer regiment that provides close engineer support to 12 Mechanised Brigade and is based at Swinton Barracks in Perham Down.
