ENGLAND cricket captain David Gower paid a visit to Tidworth’s Help for Heroes Recovery Centre at Tedworth House and met servicemen, women and veterans who have been wounded, injured or sick in service.

The master batsman said: “Tedworth House is an extraordinary facility, and every penny has been well spent to support our wounded.

“There is a lot of support behind the house which we need to continue.”

Eagerly watched by David, the H4H Cricket for Heroes team then took to the pitch at Tidworth Garrison Oval for a friendly match against BA pilots and ground crew.

Cricket for Heroes is a team of Help for Heroes beneficiaries who are using cricket and the camaraderie of sport as part of their recovery, helping them to overcome lifechanging injuries and illnesses.

The team played in a fundraising event in at Ropley, Hampshire on Sunday, 6 July, with the ladies team playing their first exhibition game in the morning followed by the men’s match in the afternoon.

Help for Heroes psychological wellbeing advisor and cricket coach, Alan McClelland, said: “Some new friendships were formed and there are plans for many more games in the future.

“All in all, it was an amazing day with some great cricket played on both sides!”
