ANDOVER’S The Lights will be showing Hans Christian Andersen’s popular fairytale The Little Mermaid today.
Ballet Theatre UK will be retelling the story of the young mermaid through an eclectic range of classical dance, popular culture and literature.
The young princess falls in love with a human prince after saving his life in a storm.
Determined to win his heart and have a life away from the sea, the mermaid bargains with the evil Sea Witch, but it comes at a high price.
The dance company’s world premiere of the fulllength ballet explores the themes of love and longing.
It looks at how choices can have irrevocable consequences, alongside how good behaviour can be rewarded in unexpected ways.
The new production group has collaborated with local dance schools and academies to raise awareness of dance.
Previous productions include Alice in Wonderland, The Snow Queen and A Christmas Carol.
The Little Mermaid will be shown at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.
Tickets can be purchased at The Lights Theatre or visit thelights.org.uk.
