ANDOVER Town Band is looking for new players to strengthen its team.

Following the most successful year since it reformed in 2010 the band won its second promotion in March which means it has gone up a league and is now in the second section of bands in the west of England.

In January the youth band collected a sideboard full of trophies at the Wessex youth and training band contest.

The recent charity concert at St Mary’s Church with Builth Wells Male Voice Choir, organised by Andover Rotary Club, was a sell-out success and the band is currently preparing for a busy programme of fetes and carnivals before a summer trip to Germany.

Some of the band’s young people are leaving Andover this autumn for university or new careers, leading to vacancies for trombone, flugel horn, cornet and percussion players.

Musical director Steve Large said: “We’re proud of the opportunities we can provide for players, no matter what their ability.

“We’re always looking for beginners who are keen to learn a brass instrument, but we also welcome experienced players, young or old.”
