Andover Homemakers' Club

STRUGGLING to make herself heard above the rattle of raindrops on the roof of the marquee, their chairman Jacky Hutchins welcomed intrepid members and guests to the annual May tea of Andover Homemakers’ Club at Mullion House.
 

Luckily, teacups and all the delicious sandwiches and cakes had already been transported outside before the rain began, and apart from the chill – and a little damp – everyone was under shelter, and able to enjoy a splendid feast provided by the committee and other kind members (Brenda Daykin, Mary Hazard, Sheila Withers, Barbara Adams, Ann Allen and Annie Lockie) and to admire the garden at a distance.
 

Jacky reminded those present of the June visit to Bournemouth, and gave notice of a further coach trip to take place on 30 September to Lepe Country Park for coffee, travelling on to Romsey for lunch, leaving St Ann’s House at 9am, and Romsey at 3pm.  The subsidised cost to members would be only £5, and it was hoped the coach would be full.
 

Birthday cards were handed out for June – Judy Sweetman 1st, Barbara Lampitt 2nd, Sheila Withers10th Val Combes 18th and Ann Allen 27th June, and before the club could meet again en bloc, Theo Redgrave would be celebrating on 5th July. The 15th July meeting at St Ann’s House would be a jewellery making demonstration so members were advised to bring a small tray or teacloth to keep small items together.  Meantime it was generally agreed that the uncertain weather had made no difference at all to the afternoon’s cheerful gathering.
