NEARLY £3,000 was raised for Cygnets playgroup in Barton Stacey as they held their annual fun run.

This marked a record year for fundraising with the £2,800 going towards new ICT equipment and outdoor play and storage for the playgroup.

The run brought the community and many local people together as they participated in races and other activities.

Local organisations joined in with the neighbourhood spirit too by generously providing sponsorship and raffle prizes for the event.

Cygnets chairman Sarah Hazard said: “Cygnets Playgroup would like to say a huge congratulations and thank you to all those that took part in the fun run this year.

“We would particularly like to thank the local people and organisations that provided help, sponsorship, raffle prizes and made the event possible including Toast, Karen Sykes Lettings, Charters, Raymond Brown, The Swan Inn and the Jubilee Trad Jazz.”

Mat Dewey was the winner in the 10k run with an impressive time of 37 minutes and 39 seconds.

Pete Mitchell came in second with a time of 40 minutes and 24 seconds.

The first woman to finish was Kathie Knell in 47 minutes 31 seconds.

The final race of the morning was the 3k, which took 75 runners, including one five-yearold, all around the village of Barton Stacey.

Volunteer marshals supported all the races and ensured everyone was safe and the runners ran in the right direction.

In addition to the races, spectators were able to enjoy a hog roast at the Swan Inn and musical treats from the local Jubilee Trad Jazz Band.

On the playing fields, there was also a bouncy castle, supplied by Pied Services and face painting.
