MORE THAN £1,000 is still needed for the running costs of Overton’s swimming pool although the facility will be open to residents this summer.

Fundraising and grants have covered a large majority of the costs and it is hoped that the final amount will be found through further money raising ideas.

In an update at the Overton annual parish council meeting, Tony Leach and John Pritchard outlined the future plans for the pool and called for extra volunteers to help run the facility.

Mr Leach, foundation governor at Overton Primary School said: “The pool will be open this summer but going forward we will now have to raise the funds before the swimming season with an agreement by 31 March every year that the money will be forthcoming and have it in place by May 1.

“We need a sustainable plan for the next five years and that is why we have formed specialised committees.”

Mr Pritchard of Lordsfield Swimming Club said: “We are proud to say that we will be running this year and continue to be open.

“However we are calling for more volunteers, we require five people to allow us to open the pool for sessions at any given time.

“We are not asking for lots of time but just a few hours which will allow us to open the pool for our children.”

Prices for use of the pool have also been announced with membership at £2.50, season tickets for under-8s at £13 and over 8s at £20.50.

For one off sessions the cost will be £2.50 as will adult swimming sessions.
