AN ANDOVER designer is to take part in one of Europe’s most gruelling challenges, battling the 13- mile Fisherman’s Friend Strongman Run at the Nurburgring in Germany.

David Wearn, 38, will be part of the 12 strong team representing Great Britain who will join 12,000 other runners on 10 May.

The challenge involves 17 gruelling obstacles including a plunge pool of ice cold water, electric shocks and walls of steel.

David said: “I fear this will be one of the toughest races I‘ve ever attempted, even though I’ve been training hard since January for it! I’m just hoping that I get round in one piece and finish in a good position to make Team GB proud.”

Having previously competed in the Etape du Tour, Granfondos and Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, David is no stranger to competing in races pushing his body to the limit.

David added: “I am really looking forward to the Strongman Run. There’s no doubt it will be a big challenge, but we’ve got a strong team with plenty of experience and bags of spirit.”
