The latest round of Hampshire County Council’s collective energy switching scheme, Switch Hampshire, has saved residents an average of £200 each.

Over 3,000 residents signed up between December 2013 and February 2014, to see if Switch Hampshire could save them time and money by searching and switching to a better deal on their energy bills.

After an auction took place to see which companies could provide residents with the best offer, Ovo Energy, British Gas, Green Star Energy and Scottish Power were all selected. Thanks to the hassle-free scheme, 1,055 residents decided to switch to the winning deals, giving an overall saving of £216,000 across Hampshire. Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Income and Capital Resources,

Councillor Mel Kendal, said: “This is the second year we have run this scheme to ensure Hampshire residents are getting a good deal, and are not afraid to switch suppliers. This year we have managed to secure even better average savings than last year, which is an excellent result. I hope schemes like these will ensure energy companies continue to provide their customers with value for money.”
