SCHOOLS are being encouraged to help equip an entire generation with life saving skills following the introduction of an innovative student first aid programme.
St John Ambulance is behind the scheme after research by the charity found that seven out of 10 students wouldn’t know what to do if someone they knew was injured.
The new St John Ambulance Student first aid programme allows schools the flexibility to choose the training option that’s right for their students and fit it around the demands of a busy school day.
Suitable for young people aged seven and over – and aimed at both primary and secondary students – it offers a range of courses.
The courses cover first aid basics, including choking, bleeding and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) while customised options can also include asthma, allergic reactions, seizures, low blood sugar, head injuries and severe bleeding.
