PUPILS from Rookwood’s pre-prep and nursery schools have been fundraising for Marie Curie nurses while enhancing their learning.

In order to raise the money for the nurses, who care for people with terminal illnesses, children have been learning about science, nature and the work of the charity by growing their own daffodils.

The pupils, aged three to seven, planted bulbs in pots during November and put them outside for the winter.

They watered them regularly and by January they saw green shoots appear.

The pots were then brought into the classrooms and the children enjoyed measuring the growth of their daffodils.

The children then used their creative skills by designing and decorating their pots with beads and glitter.

They were also able to make a donation for their plant on their “Wear Something Yellow” day.

Melanie Brickell, head of Rookwood’s pre-prep school, said: “There were some very generous donations to this really worthy charity and the children all had fun whilst learning about nature and caring.”
