GROUPS and businesses from Andover packed the High Street as the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race organised by the Andover Carnival Committee was contested.
Overall 15 teams from Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Newbury Building Society, Mums In The Know, Active Staff, Simplyhealth, The Breeze, Enham Trust and Andover Leisure Centre took part.
After initial heats and semi-finals which both provided high drama, it was Sainsbury’s who took first place in the final, beating off stiff competition.
The Sainsbury’s team were presented with the Pancake Race trophy and were also awarded a free meal at Wimpy.
Members of the public lined the race track and gave strong vocal support to all the teams and a mascot race was a crowd favourite.
Iris Andersen of the Andover Carnival Committee said: “I just want to thank everybody who came and got involved and supported this event.
“We had so many groups and businesses here taking part and helping out and it really brought everyone together spectacularly.
“Money has been raised as well for Oblivion Dance and Hampshire Greyhound Rescue which are the Carnival Committee’s beneficiaries this year.”
