BRIGHTLY dressed pupils at Portway Junior School put their culinary skills to the test to raise money for Rosie’s Road.

A Luminous Day combined with The Great Portway Bake Off netted over £1,000 for former pupil Rosie Rickards, who is currently undergoing treatment following the removal of a brain tumour.

Pupils were keen to help Rosie so, after talking with her younger sister Ruby, decided to hold a luminous themed dress down day as these are Rosie’s favourite colours.

Rosie visited on the day to judge the cakes with cojudges head teacher Tim Deery and school governor Jacqui West.

After much deliberation, five winners were chosen from each year group.

At break time all the children bought and ate cakes and they were on sale after school, too.

Deputy head teacher Vicky Windross said: “Absolutely everyone was involved and we raised an amazing £1,070.09.

“At Portway we are overwhelmed by the generosity and support shown by everyone and we are very proud of everyone who helped to raise such a staggering amount of money.

“It will all go to the Rosie’s Road fund and will help Rosie with the schooling and equipment she needs to help her face new challenges.

“We want to say a very big and heartfelt thank you to everyone who was part of our day.”
