MORE than 1,800 Christmas trees were recycled in Test Valley this year.
The number of trees collected from six temporary disposal sites is a new record for the borough.
Councillor Graham Stallard, the council’s environmental portfolio holder, said: “I am absolutely delighted we managed to collect so many Christmas trees.
“Each year we have collected more trees than in previous years, and 2013/14 has been no exception.
“Every tree is composted locally to produce Pro-Grow soil conditioner, so a huge thank you to everyone who recycled their Christmas trees.”
Although the temporary disposal sites have now closed, any remaining real Christmas trees or garden waste can be taken to the household waste recycling centre (HWRC) at Scott Close, in Walworth Business Park, Andover. It is open every day from 8am to 4pm.
Leftover Christmas trees can also be collected as part of the council’s garden waste collection service. This is a chargeable service and residents are asked to contact the council if they wish to join. All garden waste is also composted to produce Pro-Grow.
